DU-WEST PLUMBING TESTING

Du-West's in-house plumbing staff largely focuses on leak detection, blending cutting-edge technology with extensive experience. Because so much damage is caused by plumbing leaks under foundations, Du-West recommends a static test on the waste water system before and after leveling. If a leak is discovered, Du-West can isolate it and provide a plumbing estimate. Two types of tests are performed on plumbing projects:

HYDROSTATIC TESTING

A hydrostatic drainage test is performed to determine if there are leaks in a structure's under slab drainage system, which directs all used water and sewage from various plumbing fixtures to one or more exits into the City sewer main or septic tank. The hydrostatic drainage test is performed by plugging the sewer exit via an exposed cleanout using a rubber test ball attached to a rigid air hose. If no exposed cleanout is available, the test may be performed by pulling the toilet near the sewer exit and plugging the drainage pipe just outside of the exterior beam. The under slab drainage system is then filled with water to floor level and monitored for water loss in inches per minute. A hydrostatic test only reveals if a leak is present or not. If the test shows some leakage, the next step is an isolation test.

ISOLATION TESTING

An isolation test is performed to determine where any leaks are located in a home’s underslab drainage system. An isolation test is performed by pulling all toilets in a home to systematically “isolate” each restroom and fixture from the rest of the drainage system; this is performed in conjunction with available kitchen and washer wall cleanouts with exposed two-way cleanouts. Multiple rubber test balls are used to section off drainage pipe main and branches until exact locations of any leaks are discovered. A detailed report and plan of repair can then be provided.
